Shein is a global online fast-fashion retailer, generating $41.85 billion in revenue (2025) by using AI-driven demand prediction, small-batch production and direct-to-consumer shipping to deliver thousands of new styles daily at ultra-low prices. Founded in China in 2008 and now headquartered in Singapore, Shein operates in over 150 countries and has built one of the most visited e-commerce platforms globally, rivaling established players like Zara, H&M and the Inditex group in scale while operating at significantly lower price points. On Aug 24, 2026, Shein launched its long-awaited Hong Kong Stock Exchange IPO, offering approximately 280 million Class B shares at HK$47.60 to HK$49.50 per share to raise up to $1.77 billion at a valuation of approximately $27 billion.
In this article, we cover Shein's IPO details, the bullish and bearish factors shaping its public market debut, price outlook scenarios and how to trade SHEIN on Bybit via pre-market perpetual contracts before shares begin trading on September 1.
Key Takeaways:
Shein generated $41.85 billion in revenue in 2025 (+8% YoY), slowing from 20.7% growth in 2024. Q1 2026 growth decelerated further to 1.1%, with US revenue declining 14.3% and operating profit falling 26%.
The Hong Kong IPO targets a $27 billion valuation, representing a roughly 70% decline from Shein's peak $100 billion private valuation in 2022, reflecting the structural impact of US tariff changes and regulatory uncertainty.
On Bybit, users can trade SHEIN through a Pre-Market Perpetual Contract (SHEINUSDT) starting August 27, which converts to a standard perpetual contract on September 1 when Hong Kong trading begins.

Shein's path to public markets has been turbulent. The company first filed for a US IPO in June 2023, switched to the London Stock Exchange in June 2024 (receiving FCA approval in April 2025), then pivoted to Hong Kong after its London plans stalled amid US tariff fallout in May 2025. The $27 billion IPO valuation is a fraction of the $100 billion the company achieved during a 2022 private funding round, reflecting the cumulative impact of tariff policy changes, regulatory hurdles and a more cautious investor environment for Chinese-origin e-commerce companies.
About 80% of IPO proceeds will go toward technology and expanding Shein's global brand presence.
Shein's public market outlook hinges on whether the company can arrest its growth slowdown and protect margins in a fundamentally altered tariff environment, while successfully transitioning from a direct-from-China shipper to a hybrid model with significant local inventory. With revenue growth decelerating from 20.7% (2024) to 8% (2025) to 1.1% in Q1 2026, investors face the question of whether the deceleration is a tariff-driven trough or a structural plateau.
$41.85 billion in revenue (2025) makes Shein one of the world's largest fashion retailers by sales, now exceeding Inditex ($41 billion) despite being a fraction of its age. The company has scaled from approximately $10 billion in revenue (2020) to nearly $42 billion in five years, demonstrating extraordinary growth capacity even if recent quarters show deceleration.
Profitable at approximately $1 billion in operating income (2024), proving that Shein's ultra-low-price model can generate meaningful profits. Unlike many high-growth e-commerce companies that sacrifice margins for scale, Shein has been consistently profitable since at least 2023, validating its asset-light, data-driven approach to fast fashion.
$27 billion valuation represents a roughly 70% discount to peak, creating potential upside if the company demonstrates that its business model remains viable post-tariff changes. Investors who missed the private market can now access Shein at a valuation that may already reflect significant negative news, including the recent growth deceleration.
Tariff adaptation efforts are underway: Shein has shifted inventory to US warehouses, implemented bulk shipping strategies and diversified its supply chain in response to the de minimis exemption elimination. While delivery times have lengthened and Q1 2026 US revenue declined 14.3%, the long-term payoff of localized inventory is not yet reflected in results.
AI-driven small-batch production can reduce inventory risk and overproduction by testing demand with small runs before scaling successful styles.
Global diversification beyond the US: Shein operates in 150+ countries, reducing dependence on any single market. Growth in Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East provides multiple revenue streams, though new European import charges and softer Middle East demand mean international markets are not entirely insulated from macro headwinds.
De minimis exemption elimination (April 2025) fundamentally disrupted Shein's original model. The ability to ship packages under $800 directly from China without tariffs was a structural advantage that enabled Shein's ultra-low prices. Chinese-origin products now face tariffs ranging from 10% to 87.5%, forcing price increases and longer delivery times.
Growth is decelerating sharply: from 20.7% in 2024 to 8% in 2025 to just 1.1% in Q1 2026. US revenue fell 14.3% in Q1 and operating profit dropped 26%. If this trajectory continues through the IPO's first reporting periods, the $27 billion valuation could prove too rich.
Valuation has collapsed roughly 70% from $100 billion (2022) to $27 billion, and the trend may not be over. Operating margins are under pressure from higher logistics costs, local warehousing buildout and tariff absorption, with no clear timeline for margin recovery.
Intense competition from Temu, PDD Holdings' international marketplace that uses a similar direct-from-China model and has aggressively acquired market share through heavy advertising spend. Both companies face the same tariff headwinds, but Temu's deeper pockets (backed by PDD's $130B+ market cap) give it more runway to absorb margin pressure.
ESG and regulatory risks are significant: current EC and FTC probes, fines in France and Italy, privacy cases and ongoing scrutiny over supply chain practices. These issues could trigger further regulatory action, consumer boycotts or listing restrictions.
Pre-IPO pricing uncertainty: with no public trading history, the market has no established consensus on fair value. Pre-market perpetual contracts can trade at significant premiums or discounts to eventual IPO prices, and early liquidity may be thin.
US market headwinds could prove structural. The end of the de minimis exemption has materially changed the economics of direct-to-consumer shipments from China, while Shein's 14.3% Q1 US revenue decline suggests it has not yet found a pricing equilibrium that preserves both volume and margin.
Scenario | Post-IPO target | Implied move from IPO midpoint | Key assumption |
|---|---|---|---|
Bull | HK$65-70 (~$8.50 USD) | +35% to +45% | Tariff adaptation succeeds; margins stabilize by H2 2026; growth re-accelerates to 10%+ in 2027 as localized supply chain matures |
Base | HK$47-52 (~$6.30 USD) | roughly flat | Revenue growth remains low single digits through 2026; margins compressed but stabilizing; market assigns fair value near IPO price |
Bear | HK$30-35 (~$4.20 USD) | -30% to -40% | Margins erode further; US revenue decline deepens; competition intensifies; ESG backlash or regulatory action limits institutional participation |
Methodology: The bull scenario models a successful IPO pop and sustained premium as investors reward Shein's scale ($42B revenue), proven profitability and progress on tariff adaptation. Comparable e-commerce platforms (PDD at ~1.6x forward sales) suggest upside if Shein demonstrates margin resilience and a path back to revenue acceleration by 2027. The base case assumes the IPO prices efficiently near fair value, with low-single-digit growth continuing in line with Q1 2026 trends. The bear scenario reflects potential for further valuation compression if operating income continues declining, US revenue losses deepen or ESG concerns limit institutional investor participation.
What could invalidate these scenarios: A first earnings report (as a public company) showing revenue reacceleration and stable or expanding operating margins would validate the bull case and attract institutional flows. Conversely, a post-IPO earnings miss showing further margin deterioration, any escalation in tariff policy or a high-profile regulatory action could drive the stock well below IPO price.

Shein's IPO is one of the most anticipated and controversial public offerings of 2026. The company combines extraordinary scale ($42B revenue) and a technology-driven business model with equally significant headwinds: decelerating growth (from 20.7% to 1.1% in six quarters), tariff disruption, valuation collapse and ESG concerns that may limit institutional appetite. The $27 billion valuation, while roughly 70% below its peak, implies about 0.7x forward sales — below H&M and Inditex but above Zalando — and could prove expensive if margins continue compressing and growth does not reaccelerate.
The key metrics to watch in Shein's first quarters as a public company are gross margin trends (which signal whether tariff costs are being absorbed or passed through), US revenue growth (which reveals whether the 14.3% Q1 decline is stabilizing or worsening) and operating income trajectory (which determines whether the business model remains viable in the new tariff regime).
Pre-market perpetual contracts offer early exposure before the September 1 HKEX trading date, but carry unique risks including limited price discovery, potential for wide spreads between the perp and eventual spot price, and elevated volatility around the IPO pricing announcement on August 31. Position sizing should reflect the heightened uncertainty of trading a company with no public market history.

Shein is targeting a valuation of approximately $27 billion through its Hong Kong IPO, raising up to $1.77 billion. This represents a roughly 70% decline from the company's $100 billion private valuation achieved in April 2022, reflecting the structural impact of US tariff changes (de minimis exemption elimination), regulatory uncertainty and a more cautious investor environment for Chinese-origin e-commerce platforms.
Yes. Shein reported approximately $1 billion in operating income on $38.75 billion in revenue for 2024 and has been consistently profitable since at least mid-2023. However, profitability is under pressure: Q1 2026 operating profit fell 26% as marketing and fulfillment costs rose while sales growth slowed sharply.
The primary risks are: (1) continued margin pressure from US tariffs and the de minimis exemption elimination, which increased the cost of shipping Chinese-origin goods to the US; (2) sharp growth deceleration (Q1 2026 at 1.1%, US revenue -14.3%); (3) intense competition from Temu and other low-cost retailers; (4) ESG and regulatory concerns including current EC/FTC probes and fines in France and Italy; and (5) geopolitical risk as a Chinese-origin company operating globally during elevated US-China tensions.
Shein's Hong Kong IPO at $27 billion represents one of the most debated public offerings of 2026. The company has demonstrated extraordinary scaling ability — from $10 billion (2020) to nearly $42 billion (2025) in revenue — with a data-driven model that transformed fast fashion. But the growth story has materially shifted: annual growth decelerated from 20.7% to 8% to a Q1 2026 pace of 1.1%, US revenue is in decline and operating margins are compressing. The roughly 70% valuation decline from its 2022 peak reflects these realities, and the September 1 trading debut will begin to answer whether the $27 billion IPO price is a bargain that has absorbed the worst or still too rich for a company whose near-term growth profile no longer matches its historical trajectory.
